Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology

Students in the M.A. in Counseling Psychology program receive a solid foundation in the principles and practices of clinical psychology. They develop essential diagnostic, therapeutic, and consulting skills needed for a wide variety of clinical populations and emotional and psychological conditions. The curriculum teaches students the ethics and professional guidelines of counseling services and clinical psychology practice in correlation with developing an in-depth knowledge of theoretical frameworks and scientific bases. They will also learn the importance of understanding how diversity and cultural differences or issues impact the mental health field. The M.A. Counseling Psychology program provides hands-on work and multicultural education, which are integrated throughout the program course material. Additionally, students can choose from a variety of concentrations to meet the needs or desires of their educational and professional goals. The curriculum prepares graduates for licensure in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware by incorporating the eight content areas outlined by the National Board of Certified Counselors.
